What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?
At West Hills Chiropractic Pain Center,, we offer Spinal Decompression as part of our approach to pain relief. Spinal Decompression relieves pressure that builds up on the discs and nerves. The task of relieving pain comes about as a result of drawing areas of herniated disc back into place.Spinal Decompression Therapy is an all natural, alternative treatment for chronic back & neck pain patients. Using state of the art equipment, the VAX-D is a Non-surgical Spinal Decompression machine designed to provide pain relief for degenerative and common injuries of the spine. The treatment is proven to be effective in relieving associated pain and is a safe alternative to surgery, drugs, and long term pain management.
Spinal Decompression Therapy is designed to relieve pressure that builds up on the structures of the spine that may be causing the chronic pain. Furthermore, the VAX-D is FDA cleared and after you have completed your personalized treatment program, you should not have to return or receive further care.
How Long Are Treatments & How Many Do You Need?
The Therapy treatment is spread out over the course of several weeks, which varies depending on your condition and severity. Each session consists of approximately 45 minutes. Patients find the therapy sessions to be relaxing and comfortable. All treatments are administered under the close supervision of the physician and the medical staff. In addition, we offer a patient education program along with the therapy treatment, which includes instructions for self care and exercises to help strengthen core and back muscles to prevent future reoccurrence.
how does spinal decompression work?
Overtime pressure may build up inside spinal discs. When there is prolonged or increasing
pressure on the disc, it often leads to a herniation or ruptured disc, which causes the disc material to spill out. It is this displaced material that in turn causes pressure on the nerves and other structures causing pain. The pain can radiate down the spine, legs, into the buttocks, or into the toes. This can cause loss of feeling or numbness and lead to dysfunction.
The VAX-D is designed to specifically target the Lumbar & Cervical spine and apply a gentle yet effective distraction to the vertebrae above or below the diseased or injured disc. The theory behind this revolutionary procedure is that reducing the pressure inside the discs of the spine allows nutrients, water, and blood not able to reach the discs under normal circumstances, to be drawn back into the disc along with any displaced disc material as well as to assist the disc in a natural healing process. Also, the ligaments that hold the disc material in place become strengthened in order to prevent the process from recurring.
